Chicco Keyfit Installation Instructions

Before installing your Chicco Keyfit car seat, make sure you read the user guide carefully until you understand all instructions and warnings. To begin with, you should only use this car seat in a rear-facing configuration and on infants who weigh between 1.8kg and 13.6kg or 4lbs and 30lbs.

Do not use the car seat if the distance between your child's head and the top restraint is less than 2.54cm or 1 inch. Once you have these instructions in mind, you're ready to start installing the Chicco KeyFit car seat.

How to Install a Chicco Keyfit 30 Base

1 Make sure you're positioning the base in a vehicle with forward-facing seats.
2 Make sure you place the base with the Recline Foot touching the vehicle seat's back.
3 Push the yellow Recline Buttons simultaneously, so the Recline Foot is fully extended.
4 Continue pressing the recline buttons while pushing the Recline Foot in to adjust the base angle.
5 Stop once the base angle is correct. (This is verified by the bubble staying between the arrows).
6 Check that the vehicle is on a level surface to ensure the bubble is indicating correctly.

How to Install Chicco Keyfit Without Base

1 Make sure that your vehicle has seat belt locking mode first.
2 Place the carrier on the seat in a rear-facing position.
3 Check that the red recline angle line on the side of the carrier is level with the ground.
4 Thread the vehicle seat belt (the lap portion) through the seat belt guides located on each side of the carrier.
5 Buckle the car's seat belt and make sure that it's latched securely.
6 Thread the shoulder belt through the shoulder belt guide on the back of the carrier seat to ensure additional stability.
7 When the shoulder belt is secured around the carrier, lock the seat belt.
8 Use your body weight to press down on the car seat and remove any slack from the vehicle seat belt.

1 Thread the vehicle seat belt (the lap portion) through the openings that mark the belt path on the base.
2 Buckle the seat belt but do not put it in locked mode.
3 Use your body weight to apply firm pressure on the base while pulling up the seat belt to remove any slack.
4 Once the lap portion of the seat belt is tightened, maintain the tension while sliding the vehicle shoulder belt under the shoulder belt lock off located on the opposite side from where the seat belt is buckled.
5 Check that the seat belt is snug and tight on both sides of the base.
6 You can then lock the shoulder belt using the method most appropriate to your vehicle.
7 The car seat should not move more than an inch from the belt path (whether side to side or forward).

When to Remove Newborn Insert on Chicco Keyfit 30

The Chicco KeyFit 30 also comes with a removable Newborn Insert, designed to provide an additional layer of protection for small infants. This handy feature consists of a newborn positioner, which is the part where the child sits on.

As the name suggests, the Newborn Insert is designed to accommodate newborns or infants. It must only be used on infants who weigh between 1.8kg and 5kg or 4lbs and 11lbs. The Newborn insert should therefore be removed when the child weighs more than 5kgs or 11 lbs.

However, you can still use the head support to provide extra support to a small child's head with or without the newborn insert.

How to Remove Chicco Keyfit 30 Car Seat Cover

1 Loosen the harness and remove the infant.
2 Turn over the carrier to allow access to unhook harness straps from the metal prong at the back.
3 Remove the straps from the harness slots.
4 Unhook the elastic band tucked around handle pivots on either side of the car seat.
5 Gently pull the seat pad from under the Adjuster cover. (Make sure the adjuster cover stays in place).
6 Lift the seat pad up and remove it from the carrier by guiding harness assembly through the slots.
7 Make sure the Harness or harness components stay attached to the carrier.
