How To Clean Cork Fishing Handles

Have some B & W rods on which the cork handles have become grubby. Any suggestions on cleaning without using sandpaper. As the handles have a single aluminium ring for holding the reel in place, the cleaner needs to be ally friendly too.

I treat all my rods with C-40 from new, never bother to clean them, they still perform as they did on the day I bought them, they are, all Sage, all 5 of them.....
If I ever wanted to clean them, I would imagine a good wash in Fairy liquid would do the job, very nice,

Cork handle cleaning

Thanks for all the replies......Tried the washing up liquid first as its the stuff i had to hand. Worked great. Handle like new and no damage!

cleaning rod handle

use one of the wifes face wipes does the trick every time.

Pour some Fairy liquid onto the cork and rub in all over the handle just like you were wanking Then take a scourer and lightly rub from top to bottom for a Min or Two then rinse with cold water and dry.

Great way to clean the handle but be gentle with the scourer.

Let the gunk build up on the handle until in a few years the rod looks well used.

Then take an old toothbrush and soap and five the corks a good scrubbing.

Once every 20 years or so, give the handle a good sanding and it will look like new.

Grayling, what is it and who makes it?

Trade pro says - Ajax or Vim powder - warm water , give it a rub with the nylon back of a modern panscrub - wash off - dry off !
2 minute job .
